Dealing with themes of longing, loss, acceptance, and healing, NAUVOO is a soundscape mixtape composed from a collection of poems I have been writing to eulogize the year I co-purchased and cohabitated a haunted house on an acre of haunted land off the Mississippi River. I would rake the tangled land as way of bringing some care to the negligence offered before; like soothing out hairknots. Rematriating my musical practice began here.

NAUVOO uses bassoon, synthesis, affected guitar, field recordings, and treated vocals. The bassoon carries the ideé fixe, and represents the voice of internal anxiety. Through each fit of fury, the quest to find solace eventually leaves room for the voice of her essential self to speak. The voice says, "sometimes leaving home helps you come home to yourself". One year after leaving, the house was destroyed in a tornado.

The final scene is a love letter to anyone who has ever wondered if they would be able to escape a pattern of abuse. The poem recited is one of many I've written to describe and digest this experience.

NAUVOO was composed, arranged, engineered, and performed by myself. It was co-mixed at CNMAT with Nathan Corder.
